How Comic Moon uses your information when you browse, shop, subscribe or get in touch.

Who is responsible for your information?

Comic Moon is operated by Comic Moon Limited, company number 15529057, registered in England and Wales. Registered office: Unit 6 Heritage Business Centre, Derby Road, Belper, Derbyshire, DE56 1SW.

Information we collect and why

• Orders and memberships: your name, email, delivery and billing addresses, order history, payment status and any preferences you share. We use these to take and fulfil orders, manage subscriptions and provide customer support. This is necessary for our contract with you, or steps you ask us to take before a contract.
• Accounts and wishlists: your login and saved preferences help provide the account and wishlist services you choose.
• Enquiries: messages, contact details and any collection photographs or organisation details you provide help us respond to your request. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in answering relevant enquiries and operating our business.
• Applications and work experience: we use information you send to assess and arrange the opportunity you enquire about, on the basis of steps towards a possible contract and our legitimate interests in recruitment and placement administration, as applicable. Please avoid sending sensitive information unless it is needed to discuss an adjustment.
• Mailing lists: with your consent, we use your email address to send the updates you request. Our newsletter can record opens and link interactions to help us understand which updates are useful. You can unsubscribe through the link in an email or by contacting us.
• Website operation: device, browser, IP address, cookie and usage information may be processed for site functionality, security, fraud prevention and service operation. Essential security processing is based on legitimate interests; consent is used where required for optional tracking.
• Business records: we keep records needed for accounting, tax, legal obligations and resolving disputes.

Buying something does not automatically subscribe you to marketing. We do not sell your contact details.

Who receives information?

We share relevant information with service providers needed to operate Comic Moon: WordPress.com/Automattic for hosting and connected WordPress, WooCommerce, Jetpack and spam-protection services; WooPayments and its payment partners, including Stripe and Klarna where selected; our email and newsletter delivery services; Royal Mail and other delivery providers used for your order; and professional advisers or authorities where necessary.

Our Newsletter plugin manages mailing-list subscriptions on the site. Payment credentials are handled by the payment services; Comic Moon does not receive your full card security details. Providers may also process information under their own privacy notices, including for payment security and legal obligations.

International processing

Some providers operate internationally, so information may be processed outside the UK. Where a transfer is subject to UK data-protection restrictions, appropriate safeguards are required, such as a recognised adequacy arrangement or approved contractual safeguards. Contact us for information about the arrangements relevant to your data.

How long information is kept

Retention depends on the purpose of the record. Order and payment records are kept for the applicable accounting and tax record-keeping period, and longer where needed for an unresolved dispute or legal obligation. Account information is needed while you use the account; closing an account does not necessarily remove transaction records that must be retained.

Enquiry records are retained while handling the request and relevant follow-up, including any connected contract or dispute. Application information is retained for the recruitment or placement process and any necessary complaint-handling period; keeping it for an unrelated future opportunity requires a separate reason. Mailing-list information is retained while the subscription is active, with minimal suppression information where needed to respect an unsubscribe request. Security records and backups follow the relevant provider’s retention arrangements.

These criteria guide deletion or anonymisation when information is no longer required. To ask about a particular record or request deletion, email us; we will explain any legal reason for retaining it.

Cookies and embedded features

Basket, checkout, login and security features use cookies or similar technologies to provide the service. Payment providers can also use technologies for payment and fraud protection. Optional embedded or measurement features can involve additional providers.

The Facebook preview connects to Facebook only when you choose to load it. Facebook may then receive device and network information and use cookies under its own policies. Following an external social link takes you to that service.

You can manage cookies using your browser controls, although blocking essential cookies can affect shopping and login. Browser controls are separate from any choices offered by an embedded service or consent interface. The presence of this notice does not mean that every cookie is essential or that continued browsing constitutes consent to optional cookies.

Your rights

Depending on the circumstances, you can request access, correction, deletion, restriction or portability of your information, and object to processing based on legitimate interests. You can withdraw consent without affecting processing that was lawful before withdrawal. Some rights have exceptions, including where records are required by law.
